Working from home again
After having an office for the past 8 months I decided to move my office back into my apartment when I moved to a new place. The reason I moved into an office in the first place was because of motivation issues and the fact that I couldn’t concentrate because there were too many distractions.
So why am I going back to that? I hear you wonder…

Well, as great as having a separate office was, for one person it just didn’t feel right. I’m the kind of guy that likes to work at 1am in the morning or 1pm in the afternoon, when I feel motivated to work I want to be able to work. Having your work life and personal life separated meant that this wasn’t possible. If I wanted to do work from home I’d have to set up GoToMyPC or download the files I needed to my thumb drive, get home and then realise I forgot something. When I was suddenly inspired to do a design I wouldn’t be able to because I didn’t have the software at home, this has now resulted in me having a few hundred hand drawn designs of sites I probably wont ever get round to actually doing.
So my office is now in my nice new apartment, I have everything in one place and now I really need to make sure that I’m motivated to work. Today was my first proper day at work for the past few weeks (been moving) and I did quite a lot today so hopefully motivation wont be an issue now. There are distractions at the moment though, thank you very much Wimbledon and extremely nice weather
.
I look forward to getting an office again soon, I’ll wait until I’m employing though. Oh and sorry about the quality of the image, I took it on my iPhone. And what do you think of the new design? I wanted to create a nice homely warm site and I really wanted to use that wood texture somewhere.

My work patterns are pretty similar to yours, I work best at night which is fine since the majority of my clients are from North America. I like your desk setup, you could do with a second monitor though, it really helps when you’re designing and slicing.
What desk is complete without a can of Pringles on it?

Haha yeah a desk without Pringles is like a desk without a computer.
I have used a second monitor before but it never really got used, I just use Spaces on the mac, so much easier.
Thanks

I’ve found a second monitor to be useful when slicing up a design. It’s nice to be able to have the mockup on the left screen, and your code editor on the right. It just makes the process smoother and in my opinion more enjoyable.
